Nylon plastics are one of the most frequently used thermoplastics for engineering and industrial applications because of their toughness, low coefficient of friction and good abrasion resistance. Nylon plastics can be formulated with a number of different additives to improve load-bearing capabilities and to reduce friction and the need for additional lubrication.
Nylon plastics are often an ideal replacement for bronze bearings or bushings.
Typical Applications of Nylon Plastics:
- Wear pads
- Sound dampening
- Star wheels
Midland carries Nylon plastics in a wide variety of grades, in cast and extruded sheets, plus rods and tubing. To help customers save time machining final parts, we also offer near net casting to a particular shape. We also carry versions that are heat-stabilized and FDA-compliant.
Sheets – Thicknesses from .031-inch to 4 inches; widths from 24 to 48 inches; and length, depending on type, from 48 to 144 inches.
Rods –Diameters from .062-inch to 38 inches, depending on type.
Tubular bar – Outer diameters (OD) from 2 to 80 inches. Please call for specific inner diameter (ID). dimensions.
Additives and Lubricants – Various Nylon formulations are available, as standard products, with lubricants molded or extruded into the product to enhance performance characteristics and to eliminate the need for additional lubrication.
